Christmas 2016, all events in Milan

For the Christmas season there will be many events in Milan. It begins on December 7 with a concert at the Teatro alla Scala, which as usual will start the opera season, this year with Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. At Palazzo Marino from December 6 to January 8 will be exposed “La Madonna della Misericordia”, a work of the Renaissance master Piero Della Francesca, and the Monumental Nativity of the “Sassi of Matera”, a work of Francesco Artese, an artist from Basilicata. Christmas trees will be two, one in Duomo Square sponsored by Pandora, the other made by Swarovsky in the Gallery. The illuminated streets in the city this year will be 200, 50 more than last year, for a total of about 40 kilometers. Within the Montanelli Gardens from 3 December to 8 January there will be the Village of Wonders with an ice rink indoor 100 meters long, the largest in northern Italy. At the Darsena there will be the Christmas Village. Two other ice rinks will be in Piazza Gae Aulenti and Liberty Square. From December 7 to 10 at Castello Sforzesco the oldest fair of the city, Oh Bej! Oh Bej! with 380 exhibitors of flowers, prints, toys, wrought iron objects, sweets and traditional crafts, traditional roasted chestnuts, the “Firunatt” (the typical smoked chestnuts) and Vin Brulè (mulled wine). Around the Cathedral the traditional market with 80 wooden houses and the typical products of the Christmas tradition from all Italian regions. Tuesday, December 20 at 19:30, in the Cathedral, the traditional concert offered by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo and the Municipality of Milan: the program includes works by Vivaldi and Mozart, performed by the ensemble ‘I Solisti Veneti”, under the direction of the historical founder Claudio Scimone. On December 31, the free concert in Piazza Duomo with Mario Biondi and Annalisa. At the Royal Palace some exhibitions dedicated to Escher, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Utamaro and Rubens and the birth of the Baroque; At Mudec the retrospective of Jean-Michel Basquiat; at the Contemporary Art Pavilion, the exhibition of Armin Linke. Finally, 90 years of sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro with some exhibition at Royal Palace, at the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation, Triennale and  Museo Poldi Pezzoli. On Sunday 1 January all the Milanese civic museums will be open free of charge from 13:30 to 17:30.
